Wood grain from a fallen giant, hidden in the Never Summer Mountains (Ni-chebe-chii, or Never-No-Summer in Arapaho). Sadly the bokeh isn’t perfect so oh darn, I’ll have to go hike in one of the most beautiful spruce/fir forests of northern Colorado to take this one again… Taken back in summer of 2015. It had just rained, which made the beautiful reds and oranges of this fallen tree saturated. A bit of the color is from several lichen species slowly decomposing the wood. This log was several feet in diameter, and was surrounded by monkshood and larkspur. There are some beautiful forests out there, but you’ll only see them if you take the time to explore.
